But One Must Avoid The Prejudice That Regards The Religions Of Primitive Peoples As Pure Fear Religions And Those Of The Civilized Races As Pure Moral Religions. All Are Mixed Forms, Though The Moral Element Predominates In The Higher Levels Of Social Life. Common To All These Types Is The Anthropomorphic Character Of The Idea Of God.

I Cannot Conceive Of A God Who Rewards And Punishes His Creatures, Or Has A Will Of The Type Of Which We Are Conscious In Ourselves. An Individual Who Should Survive His Physical Death Is Also Beyond My Comprehension, Nor Do I Wish It Otherwise; Such Notions Are For The Fears Or Absurd Egoism Of Feeble Souls.

Nature Shows Us Only The Tail Of The Lion. But There Is No Doubt In My Mind That The Lion Belongs With It Even If He Cannot Reveal Himself To The Eye All At Once Because Of His Huge Dimension.
