Nor Is It An Attempt To Isolate Oneself From The Ugly Realities Of The World, To Keep Oneself Pure And So Without Responsibility For The Cruelty And Carnage All Around. Becoming A Vegetarian Is A Highly Practical And Effective Step One Can Take Toward Ending Both The Killing Of Nonhuman Animals And The Infliction Of Suffering On Them.

To Protest About Bullfighting In Spain, The Eating Of Dogs In South Korea, Or The Slaughter Of Baby Seals In Canada, While Continuing To Eat Eggs From Hens Who Have Spent Their Lives Crammed Into Cages, Or Veal From Calves Who Have Been Deprived Of Their Mothers, Their Proper Diet, And The Freedom To Lie Down With Their Legs Extended, Is Like Denouncing Apertheid In South Africa While Asking Your Neighbors Not To Sell Their Houses To Blacks.

Torturing A Human Being Is Almost Always Wrong, But It Is Not Absolutely Wrong.

I'm Not Overly Alarmist About It, But I Do Think There Are Some Worrying Signs, Like The Growing Accumulation Of Wealth By A Very Small Proportion Of The Population, Plus Elections In The Us Are Much More Dominated By Money Than Anywhere Else Calling Itself A Democracy.
