I Learned A Lot From The Stories My Uncle, Aunts, And Grandparents Told Me: That No One Is Perfect But Most People Are Good; That People Can't Be Judged Only By Their Worst Or Weakest Moments; That Harsh Judgements Make Hypocrites Of Us All; That A Lot Of Life Is Just Showing Up And Hanging On; That Laughter Is Often The Best, And Sometimes Only Response To Pain.

I Came Of Age Believing That, No Matter What Happened, I Would Always Be Able To Support Myself.

My Fellow Americans, We Can Only Build Our Bridge To The 21st Century If We Build It Together, And If We're Willing To Walk Arm-in-arm Across That Bridge Together.

When You're A Former President, You Have Much Less Power, But You Have A Lifetime Of Experience And Contacts And If You've Got The Energy, You Can Bring Influence To Bear On A Small But Still Fairly Substantial Number Of Things Where You Can Concentrate On It Because You Don't Have To Change The Subject When You Wake Up In The Morning And There's Something Else In The Newspaper.
