Th' Unwilling Gratitude Of Base Mankind!

Let Joy Or Ease, Let Affluence Or Content, And The Gay Conscience Of A Life Well Spent, Calm Ev'ry Thought, Inspirit Ev'ry Grace, Glow In Thy Heart, And Smile Upon Thy Face.

Who Combats Bravely Is Not Therefore Brave, He Dreads A Death-bed Like The Meanest Slave: Who Reasons Wisely Is Not Therefore Wise,- His Pride In Reasoning, Not In Acting Lies.

But Thinks, Admitted To That Equal Sky, His Faithful Dog Shall Bear Him Company.

In Death A Hero, As In Life A Friend!
